How much should a Graphic designer charge to create illustrations for a manual?
I will be creating illustrations for a manual. Does a graphic designer charge per illustration for this or hourly? If per illustration, what is the average charge, if hourly what is the average charge?
Generally it’s an hourly rate, but you can bid a job by estimating how many total hours you think it will take. Customers usually want a ballpark idea of how much they’ll be paying, even if you won’t know the exact amount until the job is complete. And be sure to include a buffer to cover any time you may need for making revisions. Hourly rates vary widely depending on the area so you’ll need to know what kind of market you’re in – the shop where I work charges $65/hour but I know of a high-end firm about 1.5 hours from where I live that charges $125/hour.
